PROVINCE OF HUÍLA

Located in the southwest of the Republic of Angola with an area of 79.023 km2, is surrounded by the provinces of Benguela and Huambo in the north, in the west by Namibe Province, Bié and Kuando Kubango in the east and in southernmost, the Cunene Province, It benefits from a strategic position enhanced by the flight connections, rail and road to the main urban centers, surrounding provinces and the country's capital, Luanda.

According provisional results from the 2014 the province has a resident population estimated at 2.354.398 inhabitants, mostly rural (1.573.018 inhabitants) and a middle class made of healthcare and education related jobs, Huíla should continue to focus its efforts on the development of the economic sectors that benefit from primordial conditions, particularly the agricultural sector with the consequent stimulation of the agribusiness.

Location

The Republic of Angola is bounded on the north and east by the Democratic Republic of Congo, on the south-east by Zambia, Namibia and on the south-west by the Atlantic Ocean, occupying a total area of 1.246.700 km2 , with a coast-line of 1.650 km.

The Province of Huíla is located in the southwest of the Republic of Angola with an area of 79.023 km2, surrounded by the provinces of Benguela and Huambo in the north, in the west by Namibe Province, Bié and Kuando Kubango in the east and in southernmost, the Cunene Province.

Located in the interior of Angola, Huíla has altitudes ranging between 1.000 and 2.300 meters, highlighting the range of Chela and its range of mountains. .

Climate

Framed in the inner region and in the altitude area, Huíla is characterized by an annual average temperature close to 18 degrees, where minimum temperatures marked in the dry season.

From the five major basins of Angola, two are located in the province of Huíla by the Cunene and Cubango rivers, which simultaneously are the most fertile soils for agriculture.

Comprises only the commune of Cacula.

The old county was created in 1965.

Chibia

Chibia is a town and municipality in Huíla province, in Angola.
Has 5 281 km ² and about 141 thousand inhabitants.
It is bordered to the North by the municipalities of Lubango and Cacula, to the East by the municipality of Quipungo, on the South by the municipalities of Chiange, and to the West by the municipalities of Virei and Humpata.
Comprises the municipalities of Chibia, Capunda-Cavilongo (ex-Olivença-a-Nova), Quihita and Jau.
The municipality is mainly populated by ethnic Nhaneka-Humbe. In 1885 Portuguese colonization began that led to the founding of the town of São Pedro da Chibia in 16 in September of that year.
The area was also settled by bóeres. In 30 October 1927 it was elevated to the category of town and municipal seat, with the designation of Vila de João de Almeida.
In 1975 back to the designation of Chibia.

Chicomba

Comprises the municipalities of Chiange and Chibemba.

Humpata

It is bordered to the North by the municipality of Lubango, to the East by the municipality of Chibia, to the South by the municipality of Virei, and to the West by the municipalities of Bibala.
Only comprises the municipality of Humpata.
It was one of the first areas of Portuguese colonization and bóer in this part of the interior of Angola, being the older municipality created in 1883.

Jamba

Comprises the communes of Jamba, Cassinga and Dongo.

Has 9 680 km ² and about 57 thousand inhabitants.
It is bordered to the North by the municipalities of Catchiungo and Tchicala-Tcholoanga, to the East by the municipalities of Chitembo and Cuchi, to the South by the municipality of Cuvelai, and to the West by the municipalities of Jamba and Chipindo.
Comprises the municipalities of Cuvango, Galangue and Vicungo.

It comprises the municipalities of Matala, Capelongo and Mulondo.

Has about 114 thousand inhabitants.
It is bordered to the North by the municipality of Chongoroi, to the East by the municipality of Caluquembe, to the South by the municipalities of Cacula and Lubango, and to the West by the municipalities of Bibala and Camucuio.
Comprises the municipalities of Quilengues, Dinde and Impulo.
The main activities are agriculture, trade and cattle breeding.

Quipungo

Has about 81 thousand inhabitants.
It is bordered to the North by the municipalities of Caluquembe and Cacula, to the East by the municipality of Matala, to the South by the municipality of Chiange, and to the West by the municipalities of Chibia.
Only comprises the municipality of Quipungo.
